What Is a Truss Beam?

Truss girder is a structure widely used in bridges and buildings. It consists of many webs. Truss beams were introduced as large support structures with their excellent bending resistance and strong ability to coordinate deformation. [1]

Truss girder bridge is a beam bridge with truss as the main load-bearing structure, referred to as truss bridge.
Truss bridges used wooden trusses in the early days, but because the wood is perishable, the strength is low, and the spanning capacity is not large, it is no longer used. Modern truss bridges have the most steel structures. The truss bridge is generally composed of two main trusses, a longitudinal connection system and a horizontal connection system.
In the petrochemical field, tower equipment designers made preliminary research on truss beams as supporting structures for large tower internals. The truss structure was introduced to the petrochemical industry for the first time, in which the main supporting beams of the trays in large towers were modified. Double web structures were added between the upper and lower surfaces of the I-beam. I-beams have become the main supporting structure for large tower internals.
Trussed beam structures are also widely used in large-span buildings. The Texas A & M University ReedArena venue was completed in May 1998. The venue has a total investment of 35 million U.S. dollars, and the building span is 25.3m. With a height of 828mm and a span-to-height ratio of up to 30.2, it effectively solves the floor height requirement [3] .
