What is the periodic table of elements?
The
periodic table of elements is the arrangement of all known chemical elements in such a way that it reveals the regular repetition of shared properties discovered in 1869 by Russian chemist Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev.
Mendeleev was part of a group of international chemists who worked on creating atomic weights of sixty -four elements that were known at the time. Genius Mendeleev's arrangement of research results was not only to show the sequence of atomic weights in a horizontal dimension, but also to reveal a grouping of elements with similar chemical properties in a vertical alignment. This arrangement provides a table of name elements. The latest discovery at that time was the emergence of Unonoctium - a temporary name, which is Latin for its number - which was artificially made in 2002 and 2005.
At the beginning of the twentieth first century, three main versions of the periodic table can be found. Three table designs are versions of Chemical Abstract Service (CAS), Old International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the new International Union of Clean and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).
The old IUPAC version was mainly used in Europe and the CAS system was mainly used in the United States. One of the main differences is how they indicate columns.
Overall, graphs try to work similarly. There is a basic division into metals and non -winter. Horizontal lines are called periods and groups identify elements with similar properties. Some of the important groups include:
Group 1 - Alkali Metals
Group 2 - Alkaline or alkaline earthly metals
Group 3 - elements of transition or metals, including a series of lanthanide that used to call metals rare soil and series of actinide or radioactive metals of the country
Group 17 non -metallic - halogens
Group 18 - Neblucky or inert gases.
further attempts to portray the table in other ways, including parallel planes and 3D models that do not get upLy. The new version of the periodic table in the spiral form by Jeff Moran from 2006 is available for download online.
