What are the different types of nanomaterials?

Nanomaterials are made of many different chemicals and compounds. After creation, these materials are extremely small, which provide unique NANO properties. There are four main classes of materials that are used to produce NANO products including metal, carbon, composites and dendrimers. These products have a number of applications and are used in the automotive industry, biomedical industry in movies and much more.

The material is unique due to its size, from one nanometer to several hundred nanometers. Electric, optical and chemical properties are very different in Nano Scale than on a larger scale. One of the reasons why the properties are so different are that there are more than half of the atoms of materials on the surface. Items on a large scale have a much smaller percentage of atoms on the surface.

Metal -based nanomaterials are those like Nanogold, Quantum dots and Nanosilver. Quantum dots come in several sizes with a maximum size of several hundred. The dot contains semiconductor crystals that are packed together, so thousands of atoms are all in a very small area. Other metal chemicals used on this small scale include types of metal oxides.

Carbon -based nanomaterials are those that are mostly made of carbon. The carbon is shaped into hollow pipes, ellipsoids or balls. Ellipsoidal and spherical nanomaterials of carbon are called fullerenes. The hollow -shaped materials are called nanotubes.

Some of the carbon -based products include film reinforcement and lighter. It will also improve the quality and life of various coatings used in mechanical parts. These materials are also commonly used for electronic applications.

Composites are the third class of materials made of other nanomaterials that are combined with large bulky materials or other nanoparticles. These composites are usedBurning slowing, increasing mechanical performance and acting as a barrier for packaging. A small number of composites, only two percent, can increase the strength of items by up to 100 percent. Creating composites can be relatively simple by means of ion exchange and heating technology. Reactions using polymerization are another way to quickly create composites.

Dendrimer is another type of nanomaterial. These are polymers that contain many branches. They usually look like chains and will have numerous ends of the chain that can be created to have specific functions that are usually used for chemical reactions. Some dendrimers may be three -dimensional and have an inner cavity in which other molecules can adapt. Drug supply is one of the use of this inner cavity found in dendrimers. They also have applications in gene therapy and medical diagnosis.
