What is a ballast resistor?

The load is an electronic component that is often used to control the current in the circuit. Some devices, such as fluorescent lamps, may show a quality known as a negative resistance where the increase in current can lead to a reduction in voltage. This negative resistance may lead to damage to the power or destruction of the device. Stress resistors are usually connected to a series with negative loads and use the fact that all components in the serial circuit receive the same amount of electric current. Some ballasts are simply a series resistors, while others use capacitors and more complex components.

There are several different types of ballast resistors, including fixed, variable and reactive. While the most common use of the ballast resistor is to control the current flow to negative resistance, they can also be used in other situations. Fixed ballast resistors are commonly used in low -performance devices such as emitting tummy (LED) and neon lamps. LEDs areOne example of the positive burden of resistance that can benefit from the ballast resistor.

Another example of a solid ballast resistance used with a positive load is in the ignition systems of older vehicles. In these applications, these applications were useful in these applications as a result of ignition systems that were designed to work at low voltages available during the handle. Without resistors of the ballast, these systems could be damaged by higher voltages present after the handle. Later, the fixed ignition systems removed the pre -ranking resistors because they were better able to work below the handles and voltage running levels.

variable resistors work in a similar way as in bulbs, because their resistance tends to increase in response to the increase in current. Some mercury and pairs lamps include a bulb that can act as an internal balast. These types of variable ballasts have urPerch advantages over fixed resistors, as they can dynamically respond to changes in the current flow. Higher power lamps will often use a reactive ballast, such as the in-line inductor.

Electronic ballasts include the use of fixed state components to increase efficiency. The use of an electronic ballast in item, such as a fluorescent lamp, may also have other advantages, such as a reduction or elimination of a flashing effect that can be caused by changes in performance frequency. Electronic ballasts are also used in various other products such as LCD monitors.
