What is a magnetic clutch?

The magnetic clutch transmits power without real physical contact. Since magnetic forces attract and repel and this power performs work, actions may be linear or rotary. The simple magnetic clutch has a follower and driver. The driver is connected to the engine, while the follower responds to the driver's movement, resulting in the transmission of mechanical energy without contact.

To understand magnetic binding, it is useful to understand magnets. The magnet produces a magnetic field or strength. This force affects ferromagnetic materials and attracts them together or pushes them. Pheromagnetic materials include iron, cobalt, nickel and certain alloys. The total power of the magnet is measured by what is called its magnetic moment , or the magnetic flow that is produced. Similarly, electromagnets are formed by wire coils that become magnetic when the curly passes through the wire. Both have magnetic power only when applying electricity. The power of these magnets can be increased fromabaling the wire coil around pheromagnetic material. When the current change in one conductor induces the voltage in the other wire, both are magnetically connected.

In the rotary drive engine, the magnetic clutch consists of internal and outer drive. The movement of one unit provides magnetic power to turn the other. The outer drive is usually referred to as a driver. The inner drive is a follower and is usually connected to a pump or other device. This radial design is similar to an electric engine.

drive pumps used for corrosive, flammable or toxic liquids are often operated with magnetic binding. Permanent magnets are used and they can be sealed so that they do not come into contact with the liquid. The Aznova rotors hold together with a magnetic force and will not slip during rotation. However, if too much external force is used, the magnets separate and the drive pump stops.

One of the advantages of magnetic binding is to reduce vibrations. It can also allow the separation barrier between the follower and the driver, as the force can be transmitted, even if the driver and the follower are in a separate environment. The alignment is not critical because the magnetic force will still work. The connection can also function along the linear force axis.

Another advantage of the magnetic budget engine is to reduce the contact between the moving parts. Instead of direct contact, there is an air gap between the engine and the load it controls. This reduces friction and can increase efficiency. It also reduces engine wear, which can increase its life. Magnetic binding can also be referred to as a torque clutch.
