What is udi?
Unified Display Interface (UDI) is one of the latest standards for monitor and graphics interfaces aimed at replacing VGA (Visual Graphics Array) and DVI (digital video interface). Some leaders in the field predicted UDI for some time the last necessary video standard, which would allow the public to settle on a Technology without worrying that it will soon become obsolete. How does it happen, DisplayPort is a competitive standard with increasing industry support.
The combination of key elements of the UDI set differently from DVI, namely its compatibility with a high -resolution multimedia interface (HDMI). HDMI is used on top TV and home entertainment equipment such as receivers and DVD players. Unlike DVI, UDI can supply higher resolution necessary for HDMI and besides video signals also bears sound.
UDI also supports the scheme of copyright protection built into HDMI known as High Digital Content Width (HDCP) .HDCP Essentially ensures that the transmitted content remains unchanged between the transfer point and the receiving point. It also prevents "kidnapping" or "theft of air waves" because the signals are encrypted. The UDI monitor will not display protected content unless the device is authorized via the protection system.
Physically, UDI is a trimmer and lighter than previous standards, which is well suitable for laptops, camcorders and other portable digital devices. Production is also cheaper, so it is expected to reduce the price of flat panel monitors.
Interoperability among different components has increased the demand for a flexible video interface capable of robust performance. The electronic industry has seen the need for HDMI compatible standard to allow real digital consumer compatibility. UDI allows consumers to easily connect computers to burn a DVD, record programs onHard disk and perform other different tasks. UDI will also marry with high -end high -resolution (HDTV) digital equipment.
UDI overwhelms the gap in the area of copyright resolution, which previously caused the gap between PC centers and home entertainment. It was designed by Special Heated Group (SIG) , cooperative efforts of the main manufacturers, including, among other things, Silicon Image Inc., Samsung Electronics, Apple, Intel, Nvidia and LG Electronics. UDI 1.0A standard was completed in June 2006.
