What is Saqa?

Saqa is an abbreviation for the South African Qualification Office. It consists of 12 members who are nominated by South African educational department and approved by the Minister of Labor. Saqa is recognized as a legal entity. This means that he has the rights and obligations of a natural person with the ability to carry out legal actions. Saqa seeks to support a high level of long -term education and training in South Africa, with its leadership of the National Qualification Framework (NQF). Saqa was established with the Act on Authority for qualifications in the South African Act (SAQA Act), No. 58 of 1995. It is the Minister of Education an approved system for classification, registration and publishing qualifications for education and training in South Africa. NQF is expected to formulate a single standard of learning education, improve and maintain the quality of national education and training, correcting the last discrimination in education and facilitating people to achieve their goals in chosen career paths. PurposeEm Saqa is to supervise the progress of the above NQF targets.

Saqa is also responsible for coordinating the Sub-Frameworks system called General and Further Education and Training; Higher education; and shops and professions. These sections that make up the NQF are assigned to quality advice (QC) established by the NQF No. 67 from 2008 to ensure the development and quality of sub-frameworks. UMALUSI is a quality Assurer for general and further education and training, while compliance with the GenfetQA change Act. The Change Act has introduced the Council for Higher Education (Che) as QC for higher education. Regarding trades and professions, the Skill Change Act provides a quality advice for trade and profession as its QC.

NQF has 10 levels of frame, which are levels of learning success that are marked by one to 10 in ascending order. Each NQF Framework level has a level descriptor that describesthe level of success. Since March 2011, NQF has been awarding certificates and diplomas at five to eight levels. The first requires a minimum credit value of 120, while the second requires twice the amount of credits to 240.

The bachelor's degree can be obtained from the lowest level as six, but with a request for loan 360. However, a professional bachelor's degree requires 480 credits at seven. The qualification framework of university education, founded under Che in 2007, enables master and doctoral titles at nine and 10 and 10 and respectively.
