Are Spider Bites Dangerous?
Overview
Spider bites
- Overview
- Spider bite: Local swelling and pain in the skin. If bitten by a black widow spider, it may cause muscle spasm, burnout, headache, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, breathing difficulties and unconscious shock may occur. After being bitten, a tourniquet should be tied at the proximal end of the wound, and it should be relaxed for 1 minute every 15-30 minutes; suck out the wound poison and apply 2% iodine tincture. And should take oral snake bite medicine or intravenous infusion of 10% glucose to promote toxin excretion. Snake medicine can also be applied around the wound. Severe cases should be sent to the hospital in time for treatment with antibiotics or intravenous drip hydrocortisone.
- Signs and symptoms
- Ordinary spiders do not bite people, and some are not very toxic even if they bite, and will not have serious consequences. However, a few poisonous spiders are quite toxic and often cause death. Symptoms of two types of poisonous spiders after biting a person are introduced here.
- (A) poisonous spider poisoning
- After biting the skin for several minutes, there was local burning and severe tingling sensation. The skin was obviously swollen and spread quickly to the surroundings. There were two red spots in the center, and chills, vomiting, and spasmodic pain appeared after 2 to 3 hours. Followed by systemic symptoms such as abdominal pain, irritability, delirium, rigidity of the abdominal wall, and excessive sweating, especially children can die in a short time.
- (B) brown spider poisoning
- Significant local edema appeared 8h after the bite, with bullae on the surface, and severe pain. One week later, the central lesion became dark and necrosis occurred.
- Diagnostic check
- treatment plan
- Brown spider poisoning requires early use of antihistamines and corticosteroids. Some people abroad have recommended that brown spider antitoxin treatment can achieve satisfactory results. When muscle spasms occur, 10 mL of 10% calcium gluconate is injected intravenously once a day. It can also be used with neostigmine methyl sulfate to relieve muscle spasms and analgesic with morphine. If the skin is necrotic and develops rapidly, you can consider excision of the skin in the primary necrosis area, reaching deep into the fascia, and performing a thick skin graft.
- Prevention and prognosis
- Do a good job of environmental hygiene and keep the indoor ventilation dry. If you want to work in the mountain woods, you should wear long-sleeved shirts, tightly cuffs, trouser legs, gloves, and carry emergency medicine with you when necessary.
