What are beta blockers?

Beta blockers or beta-adrenergic blocking substances are medicines that change the way the body reacts to adrenaline (epinephrine). They basically block or cancel most of the epinephrine function, which may affect how the heart works. In particular, these substances reduce the number of heart rhythms and the forces of each rhythm, which reduces blood pressure and improves heart function. Although most commonly used to treat conditions such as congestive heart failure or high blood pressure, they have many other uses.

These drugs can certainly improve blood pressure, but it is not necessarily the treatment of the first line for high blood pressure. Also, they do not have to be prescribed themselves and are not limited to use in humans with hypertension. Beta blockers are particularly useful in the treatment of congestive heart failure and other conditions, such as abnormalities in heart rhythm and angina.

It would be a mistake to think about Beta blockers just about hearts. They were found effective in the treatment of migraine, hyperthyroidism and glaucoma. Some types of theseDrugs are used as anxiety drugs such as Buspiron.

Studies have recently focused on how to block adrenaline effects particularly useful in anxiety, such as public appearances. Unlike the soothing Beta blockers, blockers do not tend to calm down or cause drowsiness, so they may not affect performance, but they can scare the stage. It should be noted that some people do not consider Buspiron effective and can benefit from another drug, either another Beta blocker or other drug class.

Doctors often note that people who take beta blockers on condition such as congestive heart failure often do not feel good in the first few months. In fact, people may feel that their symptoms are getting worse instead of improvement. The body eventually balances in different ways as adrenaline is processed and improvement tends to be recorded abouttwo months after starting treatment.

There are many beta blockers and include some of the following: Buspiron, Atenellol, Propranolol, Metroprolol, Bisoprolol, Carvedilol and Labetol. They may also have numerous names of trademarks. Everyone may have slightly different side effects, but the common side effects of these drugs may include dizziness or lightness, insomnia, digestion, stomach sickness, constipation, flatulence and weight gain. Others may have side effects such as erectile dysfunction and depression.

Some people should not take beta blockers. In general, they are not prescribed to those who suffer from diabetes because they can adversely affect blood sugar. It does not have to be marked with those who are suffering from asthma because they increase the frequency of asthma attack. There is another possible risk for people with large depressive diseases. Since beta blockers can promote depression, they can make ineffective other drugs used for treatment.
