What is a preliminary directive?

The preliminary directive is a legal document used in healthcare. It can be either live will or full power and is used if you are too ill to decide on your medical care. If you are too ill or unable to communicate your medical decisions, then the preliminary directive will legally transfer authority for your medical decision -making to the person you have previously identified. If you become well enough to prove your own decision, then the pre -directive will end and decide again. Anyone over 18 years of age can make a preliminary directive. At such a young age, this may seem unnecessary, but people may become ill at any time in their lives and it is important to determine your wishes if this happens. This might be temporarily until you are able to make such decisions for yourself again.

Many preliminary guidelines combine a power of attorney for health care and live will. Life sets your instructions on healthcare providers for treatment at the end of life that you do or do not want. This will only happen if you have a terminal disease, you cannot tell what you want or are close to death. The power of attorney stipulates that the designated person has the power to make business and financial decisions for you.

The full force document can also determine whether any decisions should be made unless you are able to decide because of illness. This is known as a durable full power for health care and should not be confused with a finary power of attorney. If necessary, these two can be combined into one legal document.

The

person covered by the Directive is called principal . There are certain provisions that can be included in the Directive, including the type of care that the main wish to receive from doctors in the event of illness, approval of various treatment options or by gift of organs in the event of death.Keep in mind that the preliminary status directive is not set into stone and can change it at any time while they are still able to make their own decisions.
