- Chronic atrophic gastritis caused by autoimmune mechanisms. Patients produce autoantibodies against different components of the gastric tissue. Such as anti-endogen factor antibody (caused by vitamin B12 malabsorption), anti-gastric wall cell antibody (destroying gastric wall cells that secrete gastric acid), anti-gastrin secreting cells (causing gastrin secretion disorder), etc., cause the corresponding tissue destruction or dysfunction.
