What Is Blunt Trauma?

Blunt strokes can force the eyeball to recede into the eye socket, and can damage the superficial structure of the eye (eyelid, conjunctiva, sclera, cornea and lens) and the structure of the back of the eye (retina, optic nerve). Blunt contusion can also cause fractures of the orbital bone around the eyeball.

Blunt bruise

. Blunt bruises . Symptoms

Within 24 hours of blunt contusion, blood can leak into the skin around the eyes, often with subcutaneous bruising, commonly known as black eyes (panda eyes). If the superficial skin blood vessels are ruptured, a red appearance appears, which is generally a lesser amount of bleeding.
Blunt contusion often causes more damage to the eye tissue than surface tissue damage. Blood entering the anterior chamber (traumatic anterior chamber hemorrhage) is potentially harmful to vision and should be diagnosed with an ophthalmologist. Repetitive anterior chamber hemorrhage accompanied by increased intraocular pressure can not only cause corneal hemorrhage and reduce vision, but glaucoma may also occur in the future.
Blood can also leak into the eye, the iris (the colored film of the eye) can be torn, the lens can be dislocated, and bleeding can also occur in the retina. In addition, the retina lining the inner surface of the fundus can detach. In the early stage of retinal detachment, the object image becomes irregular or floating, and flashes and blurred vision can appear at the same time, and then vision can decrease rapidly. In severe eye contusions, the eyeball itself may also rupture.

. Blunt bruises . Treatment

For dark eyes, applying ice packs on the day of the injury can reduce swelling and analgesia. The hot compress the next day can help absorb subcutaneous congestion. If there is a tear in the skin or eyelids around the eye, suture may be needed. The wound on the edge of the eyelid is sutured by an ophthalmologist as much as possible to prevent the malformation from healing and affect the closure of the eyelid in the future. Lacrimal duct involvement should also be repaired by an ophthalmologist.
For wounded eye trauma, pupil dilation can be used to keep the pupil dilated, and anti-infective drugs and analgesics can be given at the same time. A metal eye shield is usually required to protect the injured eye from further injury. Even with severe ocular trauma, vision may decline in the end.
Once there is traumatic intraocular hemorrhage, bed rest should be performed. If necessary, antihypertensive drugs such as acetazamide can be used to reduce intraocular pressure. Aminocaproic acid can also be used to reduce bleeding. Because aspirin may increase intraocular hemorrhage, any medication that contains aspirin should be avoided. Patients should also tell their doctors if they are taking the anticoagulant neostigmidine or aspirin for other reasons. A few recurrent bleedings require surgery by an ophthalmologist to drain blood from the eye.

Identification of blunt bruises

Generally, a blunt contusion can be diagnosed according to the following points, without identification.
(1) History of eyeball injury.
(2) Eye pain, blurred vision, severe blunt contusion can cause clinical symptoms such as migraine and blindness.
(3) There may be subcutaneous stasis or emphysema in the eyelid.
(4) There are red bleeding tablets or bulbar conjunctival lacerations under the bulbar conjunctiva.
(5) The cornea may have overlapping wounds.
(6) There may be bleeding in the anterior chamber.
(7) Meniscus defects and traumatic mydriasis can be seen around the iris.
(8) Edema can occur in the fundus and retina, and severe cases may have bleeding.
(9) Intraocular pressure is lower than normal, with occasional increase in intraocular pressure.

Blunt Contusion Care

Diet conditioning after blunt bruising
After blunt contusion, you don't need to pay special attention to the diet, you can eat less spicy food, the key is the correct treatment after injury.
1) Sanqi stewed eggs: 3 grams of raw panax notoginseng, 10 grams of salvia miltiorrhiza, 2 eggs, and boiled with water. After the eggs are cooked, remove the shells and cook again. After the medicinal properties are completely boiled, eat the egg and drink soup, one serving per day.
(2) Sanqi chicken soup: 6 grams of raw Sanqi, 1 chicken (about 1 000 grams). After finishing the chicken routinely, simmer until cooked, simmer in ginger, shallots, and salt, eat chicken and soup, and use chicken soup to brew 2 grams of Sanqi and end with 2-3 times a day.
