What is skeletal tissue?
The human skeletal system is primarily composed of two types of skeletal tissues, bones and cartilage. Bones provide a framework for the human body and help protect the internal organs from trauma. They also help in the production of red blood cells, storage of minerals and supportive movement. The cartilage keeps the bones attached, helps them move and prevents friction damage at the ends of the connected bones. It provides flexible support and shaping in external structures such as nose and ears, as well as internal structures such as trachea. Compact bone is the most difficult and often most famous skeletal tissue. This type of bone tissue covers and protects the fine inner structure of most bones. In the center of many bones is a network of blood vessels and bone marrow producing red blood cells. They exist in the second type of bone tissue, called a mushroom bone.
The human body contains three types of cartilage: fibrocartialge, elastic cartilage and cartilage hyaline. Fibrocartilage is a specialized skeletal tissue that absorbs shocks in an areaASTech of the body, which are regularly compressed, such as knee and vertebral discs. It is the densest and strongest type of cartilage.
Elastic cartilage is generally considered to be the lightest cartilage. In the human body, this type of skeletal tissue occurs primarily in the outer structure of the ear. It also consists of a small structure similar to a deck called epiglottis, at the entrance to the larynx. The primary function of elastic cartilage is to maintain its shape and add support to its cover.
For a short time in human development, hyaline cartilage is the only skeleton tissue in the human body. It creates a temporary skeleton of human embryos and sets a framework for bone developments. Hyaline cartilage remains important in the development of bones in the form of costume cartilage in the thoracic and articular cartilage on the tip of the bones that form the joints. Both forms of hyaline cartilage help in smooth movement and uncomplicated bone growth.
hyalineThe cartilage is also a supportive skeleton tissue. Human trachea, called trachea, and structures that extend the form of trachea to the lungs, known as the bronchi, are composed of this type of cartilage. The larynx or voice cabinet and external structures of human noses are also made mainly of hyaline cartilage.
