What is the connection between dopamine and ADHD?

Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter or cerebral chemical. It helps to balance the nervous system, reducing anxiety and stress, and is responsible for feelings of motivation. Antidepressants can also help balance dopamine levels, thereby reducing the symptoms of anxiety and stress. Such medicines are sometimes used instead of stimulants and are more common in older children and adults. Doctors generally consider antidepressants an alternative when the patient does not respond to stimulants.

Scientists continued to investigate the effects of low dopamine and ADHD. The brain is a complex organ with several chemicals. Dopamine imbalance is just one of the causes of ADHD.
