What is a Master File Table?

MFT, short for Master File Table, is the core of the NTFS file system. MFT consists of MFT items (also called file records), and each MFT item occupies 1024 bytes of space. The first tens of bytes of each MFT item has a fixed header structure, which is used to describe the relevant information of this MFT item. The following bytes store the "attributes". Information about each file and directory is contained in the MFT, and each file and directory has at least one MFT entry. Except for the boot sector, you need to access the MFT before accessing any other file, find the MFT entry of the file in the MFT, find the file content and access it according to the information recorded in the MFT entry. NTFS (New Technology File System) is a new file system.
