What Is a Portal Crane?
Gantry crane is a variant of bridge crane, also called gantry crane. It is mainly used for loading and unloading of outdoor cargo yard, storage yard cargo and bulk cargo. Gantry cranes have the characteristics of high site utilization, large operating range, wide adaptability, and strong versatility. They have been widely used in port cargo yards.

- 1 Main content and scope of use
- This standard specifies the general gantry crane classification, technical requirements, test methods and detection rules.
- This standard applies to general-purpose gantry cranes (hereinafter referred to as cranes) operating in the open air. Its picking device is a hook, grab or electric suction cup (lifting electromagnet), or two or three of them can be used simultaneously.

- The working performance and life of various crane mechanisms depend largely on lubrication.
- For lubrication, maintenance and lubrication of electromechanical products, please refer to the user's manual. Travelling trolleys, cranes, etc. should be injected once a week.
- In April 2014, the world's largest 2,000-ton gantry crane built by Shanghai Zhenhua, Brazil's BrasFELS shipyard was officially put into use. The height of the gantry crane is 148 meters, which is equivalent to 45 storeys. It has a lifting tonnage of 2,000 tons and can successfully lift 1,400 family cars at one time. The height of the gantry crane and the lifting tonnage have set world records. In lifting assembly, the main beam lifting is the most difficult part of the whole process. The gantry crane's main beam lifting weight is about 4,000 tons. To lift the main beam to a height of 148 meters, the windward area is large and the risk is high. To ensure a smooth upgrade, the Zhenhua Heavy Industry Transportation Team arranged real-time monitoring of personnel at the 16 wind-sweeping points and skids at the scene, and established the overall coordination of the lift command. After two weeks of functional test and load test, the gantry crane obtained a license issued by the American Bureau of Shipping and performed well in the first hoisting mission. [4]
- On June 8, 2015, the construction ceremony of Jiangnan Shipbuilding Group's 1600-ton gantry crane steel structure for Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding Base No. 4 was successfully held. The 1,600-ton gantry crane constructed this time was manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry. The gauge is 158 meters and the track length is about 1000 meters. The gantry crane operation area covers the entire shipyard and the assembly site. The project will use the patented double-up trolley scheme of Zhenhua Heavy Industries. The main beam adopts a single box beam type with a height of 95 meters below the main beam. The weight of the whole machine is about 10% lighter than similar domestic products. The project will adopt three large-scale shipping and shipyard dock port floating crane assembly solutions. This is after Zhenhua Heavy Industry's domestic shipyard in 2010 of 1600 tons and Brazil's Keppel Shipyard of 2000 tons of gantry cranes in 2012. [5]
