How effective is the citalopram for insomnia?

Citalopram, sold under the Celexa® brand in the US and Canada, is a prescription for the treatment of depression and anxiety. The doctor would probably prescribe citalopram only for insomnia, because while the drug releases the symptoms of depression, it does not seem that prescribing citalopram for insomnia is an effective treatment. In fact, insomnia may be a side effect of many antidepressants, and this can also be in the case of citalopram. Sleep difficulty is often a symptom of depression and anxiety, but there are other causes of insomnia and much treatment.

Selective inhibitor of serotonin (SSRI) is an antidepressant class that includes citalopram. Lexapro®, Paxil® and ProVac® fit into the same category. It has been shown that the SSRI drug class could cause changes in sleep samples. These drugs have a positive effect on symptoms of depression, such as concentration problems, feelings of hopelessness annegative patterns of thought. However, SSRI drugs are not known to mitigate insomnia and can actually contribute to problemswith sleep.

In controlled studies, about 15 percent of patients taking Citalopram said they suffer from insomnia. In a placebo group, 14 percent said they suffered from disruption only after sleep formulas. It does not seem to be an effective treatment for insomnia because it can even prevent sleep. Other possible side effects of citalopram include nausea, sexual dysfunction, dry mouth and sweating. As with many drugs, the collection should be taken from citalopram gradually to avoid side effects such as dizziness, irritability and changes in sensory perception.

Although it does not seem that prescribing citalopram for insomnia is a useful course of treatment, it is possible that alleviating many symptoms and causes of depimuission and anxiety may have a positive impact on sleep patterns. Many suffering describes depression as a stunning dark presence that clouds of everyday happiness and disruptsnormal daily activity. Insomnia and hypersomnia, which sleep too much, may be symptoms of depression. Awakening in the early morning hours is a common symptom of depression. No wonder insomnia is also a symptom of anxiety disorder. The patient often experiences depression and anxiety together.

Depression and anxiety are, of course, the only causes of insomnia. Sleep disorders can also be caused by breathing problems and environmental factors such as temperature and the presence of light. In particular, sleep apnea, which is uneven or suspended breathing during sleep, can be a serious condition. Some sleep problems can be controlled by maintaining a good sleep environment and practicing relaxation techniques. The patient's physician should lead to a source of sleep problems.
