What are Intacs?

Intacs® are corneal implants that have been shown to help treat mild to medium eyesight, such as almost side and keratoconus. Intacs®, sometimes referred to as ICRS (ICRS) segments, are small, semicircular pieces of clear plastic polymer, which rest between the corneal tissue layers located on the outer perimeter of the eye. The inserts exert pressure on the eye and cause its flattening. This helps to fix problems with the eyes arising from the problematic curvature of the eye. This procedure is often preferred not only for its effectiveness, but also for minimal pain and recovery time associated with it.

Intacs® have the advantage that they are fast and easy to insert even completely removable for eye physicians. Surgically implantation of ring segments often does not last more than 15 minutes. Pain from surgery is minimal and patients usually need only a mild sedative. Recovery is also relatively easy, with just a few days of sides and less special eye care is necessaryand. If treatment proves unsatisfactory, implants can be removed as easily, with a high probability that the vision will return to the state was before the initial surgery.

plastic polymer semicircular implants are available in different weights and thicknesses to take into account different levels of distorted vision in different people. The heavier and stronger implants, the more the eye will flatten. In some cases, patients may need to replace one ITACS® set for differently weighted set. The exchange of implants does not require any time or difficulty than the original procedure.

In the United States, Intacs® was approved for the use of US Federal Healing Administration (FDA) and the US Federal Air Administration (FAA). It was the first surgical procedure of eye correction, which did not use lasers to approval by these administrations. Were initially approved only to treat myopia or almost pricesof a nation. Over time, however, they were accepted as a more versatile surgery, which could also successfully treat keratoconus, in which the cornea bulges into the shape of a cone and causes distorted vision.

Intacs® costs are generally more expensive than laser surgery because the procedure is associated with slightly higher materials and tools. However, the difference in the cost between the Intacs® and the laser operation is not large enough to be a decisive factor, and prices tend to fluctuate from practice to practice and over time. Since there is no huge price difference, the most important factor that needs to be considered when deciding between the Intacs® and Laser Operations, it is simply which procedure will better correct visual problems.
