What are the different types of cataract treatment?

cataracts are changes in the lens of the eye. This disease, often characterized by cloudy or blur this lens, may cause impairment of vision in one or both eyes. About 60% of people over 60 suffer from cataracts. Vision changes are often gradual and can be confused with a natural loss of vision associated with age. This may delay the treatment of cataracts, so regular eye tests are needed for diagnosis. Tests may include visual acuity, refraction and expansion of pupils. Direct exploration of the lens, which sits behind the iris, or the colored part of the eye, will allow the doctor to see the cataract.

The most common form of cataract treatment is surgery. Eye care providers often use surgery to remove and replace the affected lens. Three types of surgery cataracts are fakoemulsification, extracapsular surgery and intracapsular surgery. The lens is dissolved by means of ultrasonic vibrations and suction with cut. Inside the capsule bag where the affected lens was placed, it is placedand artificial lens. A larger cut is made on the eye surface and the lens is removed without dissolved. The artificial lens is located inside the eye through the same hole.

Intracapsular surgery is reserved for patients with extreme eye trauma. A large cut is used to remove the lens and the capsule bag that holds the lens. The new implant is located on the top of the iris instead of the affected lens.

artificial implants used in the treatment of cataracts are monofocal, toric and multifocal. Monofocal implants have the same visual power in all parts of the lens. Theric lens has a stronger power on one part of the lens. Multifocal implants will have different areas of vision correction.

Monophocoic implant is the most common treatment of cataract. Goggles may be necessary to correct astigmatism or future loss of vision due to age. Astigmatism is an extension of the cornea that can cause vision distortion.

alternative therapy for the treatment of cataracts become more popular in patients with mild cataracts. Treatment may include herbs, vitamins and chemical eye drops. Common herbal medicines are Bilberry, Catnip and N-acetyl carnosine. It is believed that some foods have positive effects on vision and prevention of cataracts. Foods with a high content of vitamin A, which is essential for overall eye health, are carrots, onions and nuts.
