What is blue ointment?
Blue Pour is the name of the skin treatment that was used in the early part of the 20th century. Altogether from a mixture of mercury ointment and oil or lard in a ratio of 2: 1, in this order, a blue ointment was often used to kill the body lice, the treatment of syphilis and soothe the problematic skin irritation that did not respond to other magnifiers or weaknesses. It was known that Mercury had antiseptic properties and was effective in these treatments. However, the preparation was applied to the skin, so there is a risk that excess mercury could be absorbed through the skin with harmful effects. One of his advantages, however, was that it did not cause the stomach or abdominal disturbance because it did not pass through the digestive tract. The skin was washed next morning to remove the remaining ointments, and the procedure was repeated next night to other small areas of the skin. Given that newer, less dangerous and more reliable treatment for the treatment of body lice has been developed and antibiotics that cured syphilis has been developed, blue ointments dropped out of kindness.
ointment derivative is still sometimes used in veterinary medicine to calm skin irritation, especially in horses. If used in this way, the animal must be monitored for signs of mercury poisoning, including excessive salivation, swollen gums, bad breath and loss of appetite. This is especially true if the ointment is applied to the skin area that the horse could lick and therefore absorb into its system.
