What is dicyclomia?

dicyclomia is an anticholinergic drug most commonly used to treat irritable colon syndrome (IBS). The drug works by preventing the contraction of bowel muscles to prevent frequent bowel movements. Most patients taking dicyclomine receive four 20 milligrams (mg) doses a day, but if necessary, this can be increased. The common side effects of the drug include increased heart rate, dry mouth, difficulty urination and headache. Rare side effects include nervousness and sleep, breathing or swallowing.

Anticholinergic drugs such as dicyclomine, prevent muscles from preventing acetylcholine. It is a chemical transmitter that transmits information to the muscles and causes them to withdraw. Each muscle cell has a specialized receptor for adopting acetylcholine. Dicyclomine and similar drugs work by blocking the receptors on the surface of muscle cells and therefore prevent acetylcholinue from work. The drug has been used widely to relax intestinal muscles in patients TR since the age ofSmoking states such as IBS. The condition affects approximately 15 percent of the population and is one of the most common intestinal problems. It is a "functional" state, because the nerves or muscles that control the organs do not work properly. This can cause problems such as flatulence, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Increased bloating may also be the result of irritable intestine syndrome.

The most common side effects associated with the use of dicyclomia include agitation, confusion and seizures. The drug can also cause constipation and urination problems as it prevents muscles from the contract as normal. These common side effects are only a cause if they are particularly permanent or serious. Rare side effects such as weakness, impotence, rash and taste changes are more likely to be serious. Hallucinations, blurred vision and expansion pupils may occur if the patient overdose dicyclica.

patients taking oral form diCyclomine are usually given 20 mg doses four times a day. If the drug at this dose is not effective, doctors may decide to increase the dose to 40 mg four times a day.
