What is IPECAC?
IPECAC is available in the form of syrup and is used as an eMetics to induce vomiting. Some cough mixtures can also use IPECAC as an expectorant. In fact, people often used IPECAC to treat Croup in the early 19th century. Although it could show the results with a conventional lock, it was generally ineffective when used to treat the overload of the semolina caused by the scorpion. It was first introduced to Europeans in the 17th century. French doctors used it in powder form to treat dysentery.
