What is the procedure of Jatene?

The course of the Jatene is a type of surgery used to repair a serious congenital heart state called transposition of large arteries. He was developed by a Canadian physician named William Mustart and was first used by the Brazilian doctor Adib Jatene. In successful implementation, the procedure can ensure the normal life of a newborn baby.

Although the procedure is relatively simple, it is an open heart surgery that is not without risk. Generally, operations are performed in newborns who are eight to 14 days. It has 70 to 90 % success if it is performed in an optimal window and can restore heart function for the rest of the patient's life.

The first step in the Jatene procedure is to provide a preventive drug of the patient, such as antibiotics and medicines that reduce bleeding and swelling. Once the patient is ready for surgery, it is connected to the cardiopulmonary bypass machine. After the blood is directed from the body, the Heart can be controlled.

aorta and lung veins are separated from one another and then each is cut a small distance over the heartsEm. Blood vessels are then re -attached. The aorta base is sewn on the pulmonary artery and the base of the pulmonary artery is sewn on the aort. After the Jatene procedure is completed, these vessels are attached to the right side of the heart.

A rare congenital disorder called transposition of large arteries is the mismatch of large blood vessels that leave the heart. In normal anatomy, blood leaves the heart of the pulmonary artery, on the way to the lungs and over the aort, on the way to the rest of the body. The pulmonary artery is associated with the heart through the left ventricle and aorta on the right side. When the aorta is connected, it is connected to the left ventricle and pulmonary warm -up.

The

heart of a child with a large arterial transposition draws blood that has a low oxygen content throughout the body. Blood is still traveling to the body through the aort, but the blood has not recently lifted oxygen from the lungs. Jatene's procedure was developed to restore the correct blood flow and save the lives of these newborns.
