What are cherry flowers?

Cherry Blossoms are simply cherry trees, known for their beautiful look. They have become iconic symbols of spring and there are parts of the world where their flowering is a huge tourist event. Japan is particularly known for its cherry flowers, with numerous festivals across the country celebrating the beauty and aesthetics of trees in relation to their surrounding environment.

Although trees that actually carry cherry fruit are also produced by cherry flowers, many cultivars most famous for their flowers are actually infertile. These are known as ornamental cherries and were brought up to have particularly beautiful flowers, at the expense of the fruit itself. In these cultivars, the reproductive sticks and poles of the trees are replaced instead by another set of petals, so they are sometimes referred to as double flowers. Although there are more decorative cultivars, the most common is planted variety.

There are many different varieties of cherry flowers, in the range of color, size and growing temperament. Isn in Japan there are more than two hundred different cultivars, the most different from each other. Although they can be easily divided into two groups, decorative and fruitful varieties, cherry trees can also be divided according to their color, which can range from almost clean white to rich and radiant pink.

Every year in Japan, the queues of warm weather, which allow flowering of cherry trees, are monitored when they head north. When each region is set in flower, it is celebrated and massive festivalsThey are held in cities and rural landscapes. The parties take place around the nation when cherry flowers bloom, with people who gather in temples, public parks and small shrines to see flowers and celebrate.

Cherry Blossom has great symbolic significance for the Japanese and is historically an important symbol of nationalism. Although the flowers are superficially representative for a female, at a deeper level it is clear that it is worth the transient nature of life. As a result, they are often used historically as a way of reminding warriors before they get into battle, that life is naturally fleeting, and therefore dying for a good thing is a high life. For example, during World War II, many suicidal bombers would paint the cherry flower on the side of their plane to remind them that even things of great beauty would disappear quickly.
