What are fluorescent lamps?

fluorescent bulbs are a type of bulb that uses electricity to excite the mercury steam. When the gas reaches a certain level of energy, it begins to release photons on certain wavelengths that cause the lamp to produce visible light. Compared to traditional bulbs, fluorescent lamps are more expensive to buy, but use electricity more efficiently. They will also last much longer, but they are difficult to correctly destroy and the light they produce do not apply to most color photographs even in bulbs. In fact, Thomas Edison, the inventor of the bulb, patented the early fluorescent lamp. However, fluorescent bulbs, as we know them, were not on the market today until the end of the 30th, decades after the bulb has been widely used.

The chemicals and electrical principles that work fluorescent bulbs are quite complex, but the general idea is simple enough to be briefly summarized. Inside the fluorescent lamp is a mixture of gases at very low pressure that I will includeHe's a couple of mercury. When the electron collides with the gas atom, the atom is temporarily raised to a higher energy condition.

However, this new energy condition is unstable, and as the atom returns to its normal state, it emits a high -energy photon. This photon collides with an atom in a fluorescent internal coating of the lamp, causing a similar reaction, but this time the photon has lower energy and can be seen by human eyes. Many such interactions that are happening simultaneously cause the lamp to emit a large amount of light.

The

fluorescent bulbs eventually "burn" when the mercury is absorbed by the internal parts of the lamp, and when other chemical balance lamps are lost. During their long life, however, they use much less energy than bulbs to create the same amount of light. This efficiency has led to the interest in fluorescent lamps as a substitute for older types. In recent years, this replacement - in the form of a compaCutters of fluorescent light bulbs - recorded a growing degree of popularity.

Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) are designed to mimic the light produced by bulbs and are about the same size. In the beginning there are much more than traditional bulbs, but they are estimated to save about $ 30 in electricity costs during the life of the bulb. Modern CFL was invented in the 70s, but was only made on a large scale since 2000.
