What are medieval tools?
Medieval tools are historical devices used to produce music between ancient time and the Renaissance. Most medieval musical instruments have descendants among modern instruments. They can be more or less divided into the categories of wind, twitched chain, bowed string, keyboard and drums. Medieval instruments were usually considered secular or religious in nature and were rarely used for both purposes. It was particularly unusual to see secular tools used in a religious environment. In general, the tools used to play secular music were cheaper than their religious counterparts. Secular musicians generally used any instrument available to their income and place of residence.
