What is Caecilian?
Caecilian is a type of amphibian who lacks any limbs and therefore has the appearance of a snake. These animals usually occur in tropical areas of South Asia, South America and Africa. There are nine Caecilian families that contain several dozen species. Typical Caecilian has shiny skin and is covered with rings called rings. Caecilian can be orange, gray, brown, black or yellow, although some species have very bright colors.
Scientists know little about the evolutionary history of these animals. The earliest discovered fossils come from the Jurassic period and by 1972 no coecilian fossils were found. Fossil records suggest that the early caecilians probably had small, insufficiently developed limbs and much larger eyes. Scientists believe that Caecilians can be more closely associated with plasians of drilling eggs than other types of amphibians such as frogs.
These animals usually live underground and borders soft, free soil. Oničasto have very slight eyes or at allNot eyes. Small antennas found between their eyes and nasal openings allow them to navigate and find prey. They usually feed on thermit, grubs, small reptiles, bugs, molluscs and each other. Toxic skin secretion helps to protect them from predation.
Without legs, a typical Caecilian relies on his strong muscles to drive him with a relaxed soil in which he usually does his home. These animals generally have strong jaws and many sharp teeth. The animal's head is almost indistinguishable from the back end. Some species are purely water and all species are usually comfortable in water and are able to swim very well. Most species have lungs, but can also absorb oxygen through the skin.
Some types of Caecilian reproductions by laying eggs, while others give birth to live young or young people at the larval stage of the developer. When a female caecilian is from a species tolerating egg, she usually stores her eggs in a small burrow near a waterHo its opening. Young people usually hatch in the larvae phase of development. They live in water and feed on plankton in development. As adults, they usually emerge from the water to live the rest of their lives in underground tunnels.
The size of caecilian can vary very much according to its kind. Some species are about the size of the earthworm. Larger species can grow to adult size 59 inches (1.5 meters). Depending on the species, Caecilian can live for five to 20 years.
