What is Gardenia?

Gardenia is the name of the genus of tropical trees and shrubs. The name "Gardenia" is of the same name, comes from the name of Scottish scientist Dr. Alexandra Garden. Dr. Garden was a doctor and amateur scientist who loved botany and practiced his avocation in Charleston, South Carolina since the beginning of the 1950s, until the revolutionary war broke out.

The garden worked closely with Carl Linnaeus, sending plants and animals in insects, fish and reptiles to Linnaeus, Sweden. Dr. Garden did not discover the perfumed, especially the white flower, which bears his name, but Linnaeus named it in his honor in 1760. However, he discovered other plants that were not named for him. Gardenia comes from China and Japan. Now, with more than 200 species, most of which are hybrids, can be found around the world, including North America, South Africa and Pacific. The most common species is Gardenia Jasminoides, named for its scent similar to jasmine.
