What is a sponge?
mushroom cloud is a sinister formation that often occurs in the sky after nuclear explosion or volcanic eruption. The fungal cloud comes from its name from its similarity with a real sponge, complemented by a cow -peak and a centralized stem. After the fall of atomic bombs on Japanese cities Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the image of the mushroom became a grim icon for the devastating power of nuclear weapons.
When the atomic bomb is dropped through its goal, it does not hit the ground and explodes. This would force a large part of the destructive power of the bomb on the ground, not through the buildings above it. Instead, the atomic bomb is detonated in the air for several thousand feet. The power of this explosion immediately disposes of anything in the area of the explosion into dust and residues. Meanwhile, the balls of super hot gases are immediately formed in the sky that destabilizes the surrounding air and creates strong currents.
All this happens during the millisecond from the explosion itself. The overheated ball of gas forms the upper part of the mushroom cloud as it rises in the atmosphere. Meanwhile are dust and remnants of NakRested up when the air column plunges to fill the gap created by the rising fireball. This is basically a "stem" of the mushroom. There is not little real water vapor in the mushroom cloud; It is almost completely composed of dust and debris. In the end, however, water vapor can be combined with the remains of a fungal cloud to form a deadly form of radioactive rain called nuclear fall .
As the head of the mushroom rises in the atmosphere, it eventually reaches a point where the air is more stable and less penetrating. This causes the fiery ball to spread in all directions and create a very distinctive shape of the mushroom cloud. Convective currents created by a fiery ball as it grew in the air to force the outer edges of the fungus caps to turn below and draw back into the central stem.
mushroom cloud is generally formed only when a considerable amount of explosive energy and heat is released. Several large conventional bombs can create small mushrooms under the right conditions, but generally the only event capableNot to produce visible cloud mushrooms are above -ground nuclear explosions and main volcanic eruptions. Fortunately, most of us should be able to avoid experiencing one of these possibilities during our own lives.
