What is periwinkle snail?
The term "periwinkle" does not only concern colors or type of flower. It is also the name of an ordinary snail from the northeastern European and Russian coast of the Atlantic Ocean. In North America there is also a periwinkle snail, or is also considered an invasive species after its accidental introduction in the mid -18th century. Hladning periwinkle is eaten in places around the world, highly valued for their taste.
Periwinkle snail, called Common Winkle, is a type of sea worm. It prefers intertidal zones, areas that are above the water in tides and underwater in tides, but also occupy their stay in the mouth and tidal pools. The Klail snail is commonly held on rocks or structures to stabilize and provide the degree of protection against predators.
Another advantage of the Afinity snail periwinkle with the rocks is that it provides gastropods with an abundant food source. Although snails are technically omnipotent, most of their diet comes from algae. Periwinkle snails also eat smaller invertebrates likeare the larvae of Barnacle.
A common Winkle shell is an irregular oval shape with a sharp pointed edge, which sometimes sometimes wear due to erosion. Shells are strong and robust with multiple color strips from gray to brown with inner color dark brown. In maturity, snails are measured between 0.39 and 0.47 inches (9.9 to 11.93 millimeters) long and between 1.18 and 2 inches (29.97 to 50.8 millimeters) high.
The only periwinkle snail can live between five and ten years. Each year, one woman can lay 10,000 to 100,000 eggs that hatch into the larvae four to seven weeks later. Not all larvae get into adulthood, with many thousands of the victims of predators and hard sea conditions. Yet it is enough to survive the periwinkle snail and common to see on the Atlantic beaches.
People with periwinkle snail enjoyed a comfortable relationship for a long time. Shells were found in the Scottish HROmads of shells reaching back to at least 7 500 BCE. They are common in British and Irish cuisine and are sold with a bag. African and Asian chefs consider snails a delicacy. Ordinary parts of Winkle are sometimes used as a bait for fishing.
Not everyone welcomes the periwinkle snail as a beneficial creation. Periwinkles in America are invasive. They occupy sources used by native species, damage these species and change the natural environment and ecology. As a result of accidental introduction, the periwinkle is located on the Pacific and on the Atlantic coast of North America and is considered one of the predominant species after eraseing several native species.
