What is a fossilized forest?

The fossilized forest is a forest made of fossil or fossilized wood. In other words, the fossilized forest is a forest made of stone trees. The natural process that occurs when all organic material in the tree dies and is replaced by a combination of quartz, copper, iron and other minerals. Once the process is completed, the fossilized wood is no longer considered to be wood and is ranked as classified as a stone. In fact, fossilized wood is the official stone of Washington. All fossilized forests are national monuments and are carefully protected.

The fossilized forest has happened over millions of years. Some of the largest fossilized forests in the world are estimated to be 100 million years old. Volcanic ash is sometimes a key step in the fossil process. In fact, it is not uncommon for a fossilized forest to cover with a mud made by partially volcanic ash. The volcanic ash creates a chemical reaction in wood that the turn speeds up the fossilization process.

fossilized forest can take different colors, depending on the type of matThe e -series, as soon as it is absorbed by live trees. Cobalt and copper cause a greenish blue shade, while the manganese turns pink wood and the carbon produces gray. Some trees have more than one color, while others are basically composed of a crystal quartz that are transparent and allowing a grain view.

The most impressive fossilized forest in the world is in Santa Cruz, Argentina. With the diameter of trees with a diameter of over 10 feet (3 meters), the Patagon fossilized forest is one of the best examples of wooden stone in the world. By comparison, the fossilized forest national park in the northeastern Arizona, considered the best example of fossilized wood in North America, boasts trees that barely reach six feet. Canada has the largest fossilized forest in the world, covering a thousand kilometers and dating until the eocene period. Other important examples of fossilized forest include the fossilized forest Lesvos (Greece), inEsnice Thiruvakkarai (India), Curio Bay (New Zealand) and Nová Paka (Czech Republic).
