What is Proboscis?

The term Proboscis concerns the nose of an animal, vertebrates or invertebrates, which is long and elongated. The word is in Latin format and monitors its origin on a combination of two Greek words: for and barefoot. The first means "before" or "forward", while the second means "feed" or "nourish". For example, hovering uses its proboscis to extract the nectar of flowers. Other invertebrates with this organ include butterflies, moths, worms ribbons, snails and slugs. In addition to being a specialized pendant, it is incredibly versatile, used for various tasks that include drinking water and swimming water, lifting grass, exploiting trees and joke interactions that include water suction for drinking and bathing, picking grass, expocking trees and other elephants.

Another example of vertebrates with Proboscis is a mammal whose name actually includes the word: Monkey Proboscis. This is also known under the scientific name nasalis larvatus and alternatively is called a long nose. Nose monkeIt is as an amplifier for his warning calls at a time of danger. It is also assumed that men of the species use their noses to attract potential friends. Proboscis on this type of primates can be up to 7 inches (17.8 centimeters).

There are other vertebrates who have Proboscis. Tapir, similar to herbivores from Central and South America, as well as Southeast Africa, has a snout that uses for grasping or holding. The muzzle of the male elephant seal, which belongs to the family Mirounga , is said to be similar to the elephant, and is able to produce an incredibly loud roaring sound. Other examples include Aardvark, night bounding of the animal in Africa; Numbat, Marsupial from Western Australia; elephant screw, small African insects; and Hispaniolan solenodon, another night border of the animal on the island of shared Haitim and the Dominican Republic.

Although the term proboscis is not usualE applied to humans, used as an informal designation of certain physical abnormalities. For example, a long, elongated nose on a person can be described as proboscis. The term can also be used when an unusually large nasal organ is accompanied by large eyes.
