What is Quandong?

Quandong is a fruit wild shrub or shrub naturally found in Australia. The fossils of this shrub were found in outback, which led some to speculation that it could be the oldest plant on Earth. Several varieties of these plants are now also grown on plantations for commercial purposes.

Santalum acuminatum is perhaps a common type of this plant and is also known as the desert Quandong. These trees have light green leaves, small white flowers and are usually two or three meters high, although they can grow. These trees flourish in arid and semi -dry climates. These trees are considered to be semi -political, because after growth from the seeds they secrete water from the roots of other plants. For this reason, trees can prosper regardless of the quality of soil and water in their environment.

High vitamin C, quandong fruit is deep -red when it is mature and has white meat. These fruits are approximately the size of the apple. SomeTears say it tastes like red wine or mango. This edible type of fruit, sometimes called wild peach, is found on the santalum acuminatum . The Quandong was the basis of the indigenous diet, whether fresh, dried or made in jam. Tea made of this fruit was used by natives to flush toxins from their systems. Rhevmatism and skin problems were also treated. Kernel Desert Quandong can also be used for decorative purposes or consumption. These plants are consumed by a camel, which leads to the fact that they have become somewhat rare in nature.

Similarly, the fruit found on the trees Santalum Murrayanum, also known as Bitter Quandong, have an unpleasant taste and generally does not eat, although they resemble the fruit of the of the Quandong fruites in color and size.
