What is the rhea bird?

Rhea Bird is a member of the Rheidae family, a group of large birds from South America. The family includes two species: a larger rhea bird and a smaller rhea bird. They are free of flight, like their relatives, ostriches and emus. They have rounded bodies covered with large feathers, which are usually grayly brown. Their legs are long and strong and have long necks with small heads and pointed beaks.

The larger Rhea bird, also known as Rhea American , is located in Plains and Woodlands of Argentina and Brazil. These birds can be as high as 4 feet (about 1.2 meters), making them the largest bird in South America. Lesser Rhea Bird, also called rhea pennata or Darwin's rhe, lives in steppe, shrubbery and wetlands in Chile, Argentina, Peru and Bolivia. Standing about 3 feet (0.9 meters) high, smaller rhea is smaller than larger rhea.

Larger and smaller rheas live in standing, and they are known to form mixed herds with other herbivores, including deer and guanakos. Men leave the group during the seasonNY mating to pull out the territory. Each man builds a large ground nest in which several women put eggs. It protects and incubate eggs of all their friends for six weeks until they break up. It continues to defense chickens until they are old enough to be self -sufficient.

rhea birds are also omnipotent. They eat, among other things, plants, fruits and small lizards. Rhea bird often hosts crops, making it the goal of angry farmers. This is especially a problem for a larger RHEA, whose habitat is usually close to agricultural centers. However, some farmers keep Rhea birds next to their grazing herds of sheep, because birds eat burrs that farmers would otherwise have to remove from the wool.

These birds are commonly used commercially. For example, their meat and eggs are sold for food and durable shells are used to create decorative woodcarvers. Similarly, feathers are used for decoration and rhea skin is tanned,to make leather. Many birds are killed for these valuables, while others are captured and maintained as pets or used to make eggs.

RHEA population is small and shrinking. Rhea birds are usually expelled by the expansion of agricultural land and hunted by territorial farmers. Their eggs are stolen from food and decoration. Some young birds are tamed and some are killed for the valuables they produce. These combined factors represent a threat to a bird of Rhe, which the conservatory works hard on a solution.
