What is stalagite?

Stalagite is a type of rock formation that appears in caves. It is considered to be a type of speleothemus or a deposit of a cave: you may also be familiar with stalactites, another type of speleotheme. Stalagmites have grown very slowly over hundreds of years and can take over fantastic dimensions and shapes in development. Some very fine examples of stalagmite can be seen in the cave Zhi Zen in China, the Carlsbad cave in the United States, Grotta Isspinigoli in Italy and Cueva San Martin Infierno, in Cuba. When the water slowly evaporates, it leaves a small deposit of minerals behind and this deposit slowly accumulates in the cave, where the water drips in common places. Over time, the deposit grows to roughly a conical shape that points to the ceiling from the floor. Usually, stalagmites are made of calcium carbonate, as they appear in limestone caves, alice other minerals may also appear in stalagmit. In some casesElna if stalagmite is not open. These formations often occur near stalactites, mineralized formations that are caused by bearings on the ceiling of the cave.

Since the names for these two formations are very similar, some people have difficulty in their separation. One thing that can remember you is the shape. Stalactites have very regular elongated shapes, almost like ramps, with pointed ends. On the other hand, stalagmites have more irregular shapes and tend to be wider, flattened rounded peaks. Unlike the Stalactites, the stalagmites are solid, but you have no way to know the tackle without cutting the rock formation open, which is not recommended.

When you visit the cave with speleothemums, try to touch them. These slow -growing rock formations are almost like living organisms and oils from your hands can disrupt the storage of minerals and change the shape of the resulta deposit of rocks. It is also good to resist the temptation to remove stalagmites like memento, as they have been shaped for hundreds of years and leave them in place, ensuring that future generations will enjoy them. The photo is encouraged in caves around the world if you want something to remember your visit.
