What is lotus?

Lotus is a type of water plant in the family of water lily. The formal name is nnucifera , although it is known by a number of other native names in countries where it grows. The plant has long been appreciated as a religious symbol of numerous cultures and is also a useful source of food, because most parts of the plant are edible. It is also used in landscaping because it can create very attractive water. Rhizome is a type of plant root that is able to release fresh shoots, reproduce the plant and potentially colonize a large area. The plant also gives pink white flowers that are carried to the surface and close at night. When flowers go to the seed, they form a distinct perforated seed pods in the form of a disk.

It is also sacred to follow the Hindu tradition and it is a national flower of India. Lotus related, nymphaea Lotos or tiger lotus, was imported to Egypt, where he played an important role in religious ceremonies and culture. Numerous images and sculptures depict its use in religious ceremonies and as a sacred ornament.

mythology also has a special place for lotus. In Odyssey , Homer almost loses several sailors to the "Lotus Eaters" clan. The mythical plants in Homer's epic apparently caused drowsiness and general apathy, which caused those who consumed them left their search. The exact plant involved in the story is unclear, but it could be Blue Lotus, a plant known to the Greeks for its psychotropic qualities.
