What is the Tahitian pearl?
Tahita pearl is a special type of black pearls beaded by black oyster (Pinctada Margaritifera), which can be found in the waters of the South Pacific, especially around Tahiti and the French Polynesian Islands. Although it is commonly referred to as a black pearl, the color of the Tahitian pearls actually ranges from different shades of gray, bronze, black and green. These natural dark colors give pearls its exotic beauty. There is a truly black pearl, but it is very rare. This molluscs can weigh up to £ 10 (4.5 kg) and is also known for its ornamental shell. Most Tahitian pearls available on the market are cultivated pearls - produced in pearl farms. Natural black pearls are so rare that only one pearl can be harvested out of the 2,000 pearl oysters. The international confederation of jewellyry, silver, diamonds, pearls and stones (Cibjo) officially defines natural pearls like those created without human intervention. Tahitian cultivated pearls are produced by black pearl oysters cultIdentified in the Lagoists of the Tuamota-Gambier archipelago, a series of islands in French Polynesia.
The process involved in the formation of natural and cultivated pearls is basically the same. The development of the pearl begins when the oysters are irritated by the presence of a foreign particle, such as a grain of sand or a piece of rock in its body. Oyster then uses his first defense line to lay a rainbow substance called Nacre, creating a pearl. In the case of cultivated pearls, the irritability is inserted into soft molluscs by the pearl farmers themselves, while in natural pearls the irritability enters the molluscs by accident. The quality of the pearl depends on the amount of Nacre. The stronger thecre becomes the greater the value of the pearl. The characteristics of the pearls such as shine and color depend on the characteristics of Nacre itself. Likewise, the smooth surface means higher pearl quality. Round pearl of perfect quality with a diameter of 3.2 inches (18 mm) costs up to $ 10,000in the US (USD).
Tahitian pearls are produced on pearl farms scattered throughout French Polynesia. Tahiti does not have on the island, but there are black pearl farms, but there is a shopping center for most industries, hence the name Tahitian Pearl. Tahiti is 28 miles (45 km) widest and is also known for its black beaches.
