What is angraecum?

Angraecum genus, abbreviated Angcm, is the Orchid family, which includes hundreds of orchid species. Angraecum Sesquipedale, also known as comet orchid or gooseberry, is perhaps the best known. These orchids come from Madagascar. They are epiphytes, which means that they often grow on host plants for support. Angraecum Sesquipedale is a large orchid that usually prefers high humidity, rich soil and low altitude in the tropical climate.

There are more than 220 types of orchids classified as angraecum. They usually grow on Madagascar, tropical Africa and Southeast Asia. They can also be found growing in humid tropical areas, between sea levels and 2,000 meters (6,561.7 feet). Angraecum Sesquipedale, or comet orchid, is just one of them. It is originally from Madagascar and usually grows at altitudes below 100 meters (328.08 feet).

Comet orchid is a large orchid that usually requires heat and humidity. Grows to about 12 inches (30 cm) tall and can forDuke up to six flowers. Its leaves are green, abundant, long and narrow. Flowers are usually fragrant, large, wax appearance and long -term. Flowers can be 7 to 14 inches (16.5 cm to 35 cm) and are generally white.

Angraecum sesquipedale is an evergreen epiphyte that flowers in winter. Usually, however, if the climate is not warm, wet and humid, it offers rich soil and well circular air. In nature, it often grows in the pools of decaying leaves and other vegetable mass, usually occurs between the branches of the host plant. In cultivation, the comet orchid must generally be connected and fertilized regularly.

Like the other members of the Angraecum family, the Angraecum Sesquipedale flower has a promontory in the back of its lip. The flower nectar can be found at the bottom of this spurs, which is often up to 11.8 inches (30 cm) in Angraecum Sesquipedale. Charles Darwin's theory popularized comet orchiPut, when he has suggested that there must necessarily exist a pollinator with a tongue or proboscis at least so long, otherwise there could be no comet orchid.

Darwin's hypothetical pollinator was not discovered only years after his death. Now it is most often known as Hawk Moth or Xanthopan Morganii Praedicta. Hawk Moth can be the only pollinator of the comet. Hawk moths usually feed on a flower at night when angraecum sesquipedale releases its attractive scent.
