What is Araceae?
Araceae is a family of plants with approximately 106 genera and 3,330 species. It contains extremely diverse species, both in appearance and in use. Although many species are used as ornamental plants, indoor and outdoor, some are used as food and others were historically used for healing purposes. It is usually found in tropical areas, many types of skin irritation if processed.
The appearance of the species varies considerably. These plants are found in terms of aquat and ground. Some species, such as Aglaeonema , may be houseplants, some climbing decorative plants such as Monster Deliciosa , and some are floating plants such as pistia stratios or water salad.
Common attributes of plants in the Araceae family include fruit berries and small flowers that are grouped on a branch or branches called inflorescence. All plants in this family have an inflorescence similar to a tip called spadix, with a belt, or a scale similar to a leaf, under the clusters KVutin. Last can be clearly colored. Many species also have large leaves and smelly sap.
Calla Lily provides a good visual example of the general parts of the Araceae plant. The curved white petal that surrounds the tubular, yellow fuzzy trunk is actually bract and is not a petal but a white leaf. Fuzzy tribe is inflorescence or spadix. Looks like a small flowers grouped on it.
In addition, all these species contain calcium oxalate in crystal form, causing skin irritation when the sap reaches the skin. Although some species may be consumed in cooking, species should never be eaten raw due to calcium oxalate. For example, the type of Dieffenbachia Picta is commonly called a stupid cane, because it is said that the consumption of raw stems will make a person lose his voice. Reports of consumption raw plant causing death in young children.
Although the healing use of the types andRaceae is no longer obvious, there is evidence that the native Americans used some kind for medicine. In Asian countries, species are often used for food, even crops of livelihood. However, the United States generally uses plants for ornamental purposes.
Although taxonomy is in the debate, in 1997 seven housing in Araceae was recognized. In the United States, there are only three resorts containing about seven genera. The genera can be endemic, such as Peellandra or transplanted, such as arisaema , which is originally from Europe and Asia. One genus holds a well -known flower in the US: Calla Lily, Zantedeschia aethiopica .
