What is Arrhenatherum?

arrrhenum is a kind of grass that comes from Europe, Western Asia and North Africa; It is also found as an established species in many other parts of the world, and it seems that they are doing well in mild areas. This grass gets its name from the Greek words arhen , which means "man" and ATHER , which means "Spike Beard". Grass is also known as Avena elatior ; In Latin means elatus high or high. More commonly known as oat grass or grass buttons, these grasses are perennials from the family poaceae or pooideae , and have direct stems that can grow up to 23.62 inches up to 70.86 inches (60 cm to 180 cm).

oat grass stems are yellowish-green with finely textured leaves that are varied white or green. The leaves are usually 12 inches to 14 inches (30.48 cm to 35.56 cm) in length. Flowers that appear between August and September are size and 50.8 cmnd are arranged in bisexual pairs on long stOnce. The roots of the plants are yellowish. The grass dies in winter and new growth will appear in the spring.

Two subspecies of this grass are arrrhenum elatius and arrrheatherum bulbosum , which is also known as arhengerum tuberosum or tuber oats. This second variety, which spreads rapidly from Corm or bulbs at the base of the stem, can be as problematic as weeds. The first variety is commonly found growing in prairies, pastures and along roads and is generally non -invasive. In fact, in some areas it is grown as a nutritious crop for cattle feeding; These grasses have a high calcium and phosphorus content. However, oat grass has a bitter taste, which makes it a fall as pasture; It seems to be harvested for the cattle after harvesting and dried to form a hay.

Agricultural scientists are interested in using oat grass, especially varieties arrrhenum elatius to create resistant varietiesoat crops. Unlike oat plants that tend to be damaged by frost, oat grass is quite able to survive extremely cold weather conditions. By introducing oat grass into oat plants, it can be made as resistant.

These grasses can also be used for decorative effects in the gardens. When they grow in dense clusters, it is best to plant at a distance of 6 inches to 16 inches (15.24 cm to 40.64 cm) apart. Arrhenatherum grows well in cold areas that have partial to full shadow and damp or well -drained soil. It will not thrive under hot and dry conditions.
