What is cotton grass?

Eriophorum or cotton grass is a genus that contains about 25 different focus. Although it can resemble grass, it is not technically. Where the grass has leaves that are alternately arranged in pairs of two, they typically have theft sets of five triangular leaves that are arranged by spirals. Cotton grass can be identified by a fluffy fabric similar to white cotton in which its seeds are packed. Different types of eeriophorum are widely distributed to the northern hemisphere, with a particularly large presence in higher latitudes. Like real cotton, fluffy matter is grown around seeds. When the time comes to fall and distract the seeds, the light material can help the seed heads are kidnapped on the wind. This allows them to spread further from the parent plant before it could be possible. In addition to seed reproduction, many species can clonely reproduce the spread of the pad under the soil.

types Eriophorum , such as conventional and cotton grass hare, can be found in the northern parts of Asia, Europe and North America. They grow well in acidic conditions found in the swamps and around and around. Common cotton grass can be identified by flowering stems that grow to about 28 inches (70 cm) and carry up to five seed heads in the form of cotton materials. More heads of seeds on the stem also lead to this plant to make it colloqually known as cotton cotton with multiple heads. The hare variety can grow about 24 inches (60 cm) and usually form tussocks, which are interrupted by higher flowering stems that everyone carries, the head of cotton seeds.

Arctic species commonly grow well in the high northern latitudes, while lean cotton grass is proliferated in the north of America, Asia and Europe in the Boreal area south of the Arctic region. Arctic cotton grass usually carries only one seed head on the stem and can provide a valuable food source for a particular migration askingKy and even large mammals like Cariba. Inuit people also used fluffy seed heads as candle wicks. The slim type also carries one seed head on a flowering stem, although the underground rhizomes are often spread instead of growing new plants from seeds.
