What are elastic fibers?

These elastic fibers are found in structures such as blood vessels and elastic cartilage. There are three primary components of these fibers, elastin, oxytalan and elaunin. Elastin is a protein found in connective tissue that gives tissue its stretch properties. Oxytalan is a type of connective tissue found in the gums and other tissues of the mouth. Elaunin is a component of connective tissue found in a layer of skin known as a dermis and has a close connection with the swie glands of the body. These changes can lead to a number of health conditions, causing many symptoms and complications.
