What is meniscus?

Meniscus is a cartilage tissue that protects and helps to promote flexibility in human knees. The meniscus has a crescent shape and there are two in each knee. In the plural, the meniscus is referred to as meniscus. Both are between the tibia, also called Shinbone, and the thigh bone.

Menisci are further classified according to their location. The media meniscus is on the inside of the knee and supports the rounded edge of the femur inside the thigh. The side meniscus is on the outside of the knee supporting the outer rounded part of the thigh bone. Both act as shock absorbers, so the weight of the femur does not destroy the smaller tibia. Both are also responsible for helping the knees to bend and bending without causing the bones to grind against each other.

The thigh bone pressure will cause each meniscus to look somewhat crushed. The curved part of the meniscus is towards the center of the knee. The widest part of the meniscus is to be found on the outside of each side of the knee because it isthe area that needs the most suspension. The inner part of each meniscus is made of liquid, which helps lubricate the joints on the hinge and straightening.

Often, when refers to the injury of the cartilage of the knee, it refers to the tear in the meniscus. In young adults, tears are most likely the result of traumatic injury during athletic games or practice. At a time, the knee twisting can result in a small tear. Pain and swelling begins almost immediately and the diagnosis of torn meniscus is often confirmed by displaying magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Most tears are quite easy to repair after surgery with excellent results.

Meniscus tears in older adults may cause cartilage degeneration. As we age, the watery part of the cartilage tissue tends to decrease. This type of injury caused by degenerative disease is non -parishment, although some treatment may occur, ascan help reduce pain. Most osteopathy doctors recommend taking glucosamine once a day to increase and maintain joint health.
