What is the nasal cavity?
The word nasal comes from Latin and means "in, from the nose or as far as the nose". The word cavity comes from the Latin word, which means "hollow", the same word from which the cave comes from. The nasal cavity is therefore roughly said, the hollow space in the skull, directly behind the nose. First, it is divided into two sides by a nasal septum, a divider that creates the left and right nostrils. The nasal septum consists of cartilage and bone. If the septum is enlarged or deviated, it may block the air flow. The floor of the nasal cavity consists of a hard floor on the roof of the mouth, while the walls have composed parts called turbinates , which serve to increase the surface area.
nasal cavities have several functions. When a person breathes through the nose, the air is heated and moistened on the way from the nasal nasal to the neck. Air particles are filtered on the mucosal surface and thus prevent the lungs from reaching. In addition, paranasal cavities are discharged holes called ostia into the nasal cavity and particles that have odor are capturedso that they can feel. There are nerves in the nasal cavity, so pressure, temperature and pain can be scanned.
In addition to septum problems mentioned earlier, there are other problems that can affect the nasal cavity. Any disease with overload of the upper respiratory tract can result in a "clogged nose". In addition, nasal polyps, nosebleedy or cold may develop. In a more serious vein it is possible for tumors to form in the nasal cavity. It is unusual for someone to develop cancer at this point, but the most common type of cancer has found that there is a spinocelus cellus cell carcinoma. Other types include adenocarcinoma, esthesionerublastoma, inverting papilloma, lymphoma, malignant melanoma, granuloma of the middle line and sarcoma.
Sometimes people who do not like the shape of the nose decide to have optional surgery to change it, and this may include changes in the nasal cavity. This type of surgery is referred to as “nasalwork ". Plastic surgeons call it" rinoplasty ".
