What is a sural nerve?
also known as a short saphenes nerve, is the sensory nerve in the lower part of people. It lies close to the short saphenes vein, the main veins in the calf, and can start anywhere from behind the knee just below the ankle. The nerve is often used for biopsy and grafts. In most individuals, this occurs relatively low on the leg, even on or under the ankle. For several, however, the nerve can begin as high as the back of the knee. In some people, the surly nerve is simply a continuation of the medial sural skin nerve. It passes near Achilles tendon and ends in the area between the bone of the heel and by the lateral Malleolus , the bony hint on the outside of the ankle. The nerve continues to the foot, envelally achieving a small tip, but from the ankle it is considered to be a separate anatomical part called lateral dorsal skin nerve .
The body uses a rare nerve to pass on sensory information about the lower calf and the outer leg into the moschku. Nerve damage can cause severe pain in the leg or leg. This can be treated by removing part of the nerve, which usually leads to the insensitivity area around the ankle and side of the foot. Next nerves often grow to compensate and restore most of the feeling to the damaged area.
Due to its proximity to the skin, nerve redundancy in the surrounding tissue and its relative mismatch with essential functions, Sural is not a favorite candidate for removal as part of a biopsy. For the performance of a nervous biopsy, the surgeon first injects the local anesthetic. Using short saphens veins as a guide, surry does not get. A small piece, usually about a thumb (2.5 cm) long, is removed by fast and sharp cut. The wound is closed and covered with gauze affected by salt resolution. The sample is then examined by a microscope to find evidence of disorders including amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, leprosy and demyelinization.
For similar reasons, Sural nerve is often used as a donor nerve in nerve chips. In a nerveThe graft is transplanted a piece of healthy nerve into an area where nerves have been damaged. It is associated with existing nerves to restore muscle function or feeling. The procedure is commonly performed to restore the feeling of damaged limb. The surly nerve can be increasingly transplanted into the pelvis area in an effort to restore the lost sexual function after surgery of prostate cancer.
