What is a power plate?

A network board or platform is a special device used to measure forces developed on the ground by the body. These forces, called the forces of the Earth reaction (GRF), are measured by a number of sensors on the board. Network plates are often used in biomechanical research and sports medicine to study human and animal walking.

Biomechanics is a study of physical movements of biological organisms, such as mechanical aspects of human running or fish movements. Sports research is closely associated with biomechanics because it examines physical science of movement in sport. The power of the board allows sports scientists to conduct experiments and collect quantitative data on body movements. This information can be used to learn more about human biomechanics. It can also be useful in medical diagnoses and in the development of new sports technologies such as running shoes.

There are many sizes and types of power plates that have been developed for different use. The most common design is a rectangular board that as four sensors, JEdna in every corner. If jumping or disposable steps are measured, the device may be only one or two steps in length. Some force plates are designed in such a way that several can be connected together and create a longer track for a running walking.

The power plate data is often combined with information from cameras or sensors to get a more complete locomotion image. For example, if running walking is analyzed, the limb movement may also be important. Scientists could study several subjects of different ability to compare patterns and tendencies of walking.

For example, in a study of how the force is developed when the person rises up the stairs, a number of plates can be placed along the staircase. The versatility of strength boards allows many variations in the design of the experiment.
