How does a barometer work?

Barometer is a meteorological tool that measures air pressure. The barometer, which is mainly used in the weather forecast, uses different methods to measure air weight above the tool. There are two main types of barometers that use different methods to determine air pressure, known as mercury and aneroid barometers.

Mercury barometers are an older form of tool and are still used for weather forecasts. These tools, which invented in the 17th century by the Italian physicist, are very accurate, but can be dangerous due to the high level of mercury needed to operate the barometer. Mercury barometers are also very fine and relatively large and must generally remain in one place permanently. The French inventor, Lucien Vidia, was able to develop a new version in the mid -19th century thanks to improvement of metalworking and technology. The aneroid barometers usually consist of a very small, flexible capsule that is connected to the levers that can move the needle on the dial, allowing you to read the measurement.

The

capsule in the aneroid barometer operates with a flexible metal that is closed to create an inner vacuum. When they are under pressure, the walls of the capsule pushed and exert pressure on the connected lever, which moves the measuring dial. The greater the pressure, the greater theIt is compression and higher air pressure rises. While aneroid barometers work very well for general values, they do not tend to be as accurate as the mercury versions. On the other hand, aneroid barometers are more robust, less dangerous and easy to transport.

Every type of modern barometer works very well, thanks to the centuries of fine fine -tuning on both types of equipment. They are often used to predict the arrival of storms, rain or other bad weather, which usually leads to low -pressure reading. Fair weather can also be precisely predicted if the barometer shows a high -pressure reading that is associated with dry air and a clean sky.
