What are the scrubs?

Scrubs is a uniform that generally consists of a simple cotton shirt with short sleeves and pants cords. It is worn in the medical environment. The name Scrubs is derived from the practice of doctors thoroughly washing or scrubbing of the hands before the operation. Traditionally, the scrubs are light green, but modern doctors, nurses and other medical staff choose peelings in brighter colors and even samples.

It is difficult to believe it, but until the end of the 19th century they performed surgeons dressed in street clothing, on which they covered an apron similar to those worn by the butchers. The operating theaters were not more than large auditoriums and the operations were performed without the benefits of a sterile environment. Surgeons did not wash their hands before the operation and the tools were not sterilized. It is no wonder that in the mid -19th century, nearly 50% of surgical patients died of sepsis.

Joseph Lister, British surgeon, was concerned about the number of deaths among his post-surgical patients. Started to study the work lOuise Pasteur, who conducted bacterial research, and, as a result, Lister began to use carbolic acid to clean patient injury. After nine months, his patients did not die at sepsis and eventually began to work in antiseptic conditions.

antiseptic procedures, however, slowly captured and despite the fact that the nurses began to wear white uniforms at the beginning of the 20th century, only in the 40s of the 20th century began to normally wear special clothes in the operating room. The first surgical clothing consisted of dresses and surgical curtains, which were usually made of white cotton. However, white clothing was found to reflect light and in the 1950s the switch was made green.

A simple green peeling suit became popular in 1970s. Medical staff found uniform comfortable and functional. Hospital administrators were also amazed at the way they were a navelEffective peelings, as well as their easy maintenance.

Today, many hospitals use different colors to distinguish between departments, while surgical shrubbery is still green. Pediatric staff often wear peeling decorated with cartoon figures and soothes their young patients and parents. Many medical staff also wear peelings. In addition, shrubs are also sold as occasional clothing and sleeping clothes.
