What is tonsillolite?
tonsilolith is a medical term for almonds stone or a small deposit of calcium, bacteria and mucus, which is formed in the slots of almonds in the back of the neck. In the appearance, the stones of almonds are usually white to whitish yellow color and irregularly shaped. They often emit a disgusting odor similar to the fragrance of halitosis, which is caused by bacteria in the throat. Tonsillites are not particularly harmful, but they can become uncomfortable and cause chronic bad breath unless they are treated.
tonsile stones occur when bacteria trapped in slots or almonds calcify crypts. While small, imperceptible tonsillites are quite common, larger calcified stones are much more rare. The problem is more common in adults than in children, especially in smokers and individuals susceptible to almond inflammation and chronic tonsillitis.
Small tonsillites often do not cause any symptoms at all and can only be discovered randomly through X -rays or tests for other conditions. If they are present PImages, usually it means that Tonsillolite became large enough to protrude and irritate the throat. The common symptoms of these large almond stones include elevated cough, metallic taste in the mouth, suffocation, bad breath, painful or difficult swallowing, sore throat, swelling, almond infection and white debris visible in the back of the neck.
In many cases, tonsillolite will not require any special treatment, especially if there are no symptoms. The stone eventually becomes independently released. If the stone of almonds becomes unpleasant, there are several domestic treatments used to solve the problem. Cotton swab is sometimes used to manually release stone clokers and salt water are also effective in release of tonsillite and release discomfort. If tonsillites become very large, painful or symptomatic, the intervention may be doctors.
antibiotics are sometimes prescribed by doctors to treat itnsilolites, although they cannot treat the basic cause of the condition and can also cause side effects. As a last option, the doctor may recommend surgery for the removal of almonds. This treatment is only necessary when the stone is large or infected and cannot be removed by any other method.
If the individual is prone to the formation of stones, the best method of prevention is to completely remove almonds using the procedure known as tonsillectomy. During this surgery, almond tissue is removed, eliminating the chance of creating tonsillite. Other forms of prevention include gargling with antibacterial mouthwash, flossing and brushing of teeth several times a day and generally maintaining mouth and neck without debris.
