What is the adrenal exhaustion?

The adrenal glands are exhausted when the adrenal glands overload and subsequently reduce cortisol production, as well as the production of aldosterone. As the production of these important hormones, the body is deprived of energy and experiences lack of immunity against disease and infection. The adrenal exhaustion is sometimes due to the disease, but it can also be on a stress side effect. Correct cortisol levels are also necessary to maintain the body's immune system at optimum levels to avert potentially dangerous infections. Aldosterone is essential for the body to keep the body balanced in the body of sodium, water and potassium. When the production of these hormones slows down, as is the case with the adrenal gland, one begins to feel a lack of energy and is more susceptible to the development of any number of infections.

In addition to obvious lack of energy, the symptoms of adrenal exhaustion may include depression, anxiety, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, weakness, abdominal pain, desires with salt, dehydration, loss of taste and losing weightting. Individuals with this condition can also experience drastic decreases in blood glucose when hungry, causing extreme irritability when food is not easily available. Internal symptoms that one may not be aware of is the adrenal infections or the gland may begin bleeding. Exhausted adrenal glands may be a temporary condition or may be permanent depending on its cause and depending on whether the gland suffers from irreparable damage.

The adrenal exhaustion can be caused by a number of infections and diseases, including fungal infection, cancer, Addison's disease, tuberculosis or cancer. There are some evidence that suggests that the adrenal exhaustion may also be related to the addiction to sugar. As a result of stress, the adrenal fatigue may also occur.

Anyone at any age can develop the adrenal exhaustion. However, women are commonly diagnosed with this middle -aged disorder. Also individuals with the conditions of chronic stress tend toI also develop the adrenal insufficiency at a much higher degree than their peers.

When the adrenal exhaustion is discovered soon after it occurs, doctors are in a much better position to help one recover or at least effectively handle symptoms. Treatment of this condition includes steroid medicines and other medicines that help increase decreasing hormone levels. Alternative medicine treatment, such as treatment of sugar dependence, use herbal agents, acupuncture, massages and vitamin supplements, are also commonly used to treat this condition.
